Education
Stonegate has a graded Sunday School program for children 4 years and older; and classes for young adults, and adults.
New Members Class: We have a voluntary new member's class that is topical in nature. New comers may enter at any point and stay until all topics have been covered.
Elders name director of adult Christian education
The elders have elected Wayne Hammermeister as director of adult Christian education, a newly created position to organize our youth and adult Sunday school efforts. Gaynell Smith is director of children’s Christian education.
Under this new position, the director of adult Christian education will find new and qualified Sunday School teachers when necessary, create new classes when necessary, determine physical locations for classes, formulate a “substitute teaching service” to have people ready to step into a class to teach when the teacher is unable to attend, promote Sunday school attendance whenever possible, and to work with teachers in selecting curriculum.
Wayne teaches the current Newcomer’s Class, a voluntary class that new members can take to familiarize themselves with what we believe as a church. Wayne and his wife, Vicki, are a part of the praise team, serving as operators of the sound board and computer systems. Wayne is a former elder, and Vicki teaches in the children’s Sunday school.
Sunday school is the lifeblood of any church, adding to the knowledge and commitment of those attending and often one of the determining factors of whether a family or individual will join the church. The elders decided that it was time to give our Sunday school program more structure and to assist when possible those who are teaching.
Adult 1 Sunday school is doing a study on the book of Genesis, and Adult 2, which has just finished a study of Matthew, will begin a study of Psalms and Proverbs, Sunday, March 22.
