Elder-body Ministry
Stonegate’s elder’s meet at least monthly and more often as needed. News from elder meetings, as well as news from all of our church programs and activities, is communicated by email and announcement.
Men’s Ministry
The men’s ministry at Stonegate is an informal support organization for the church. The Men’s Ministry is anchored by a weekly Bible Study, and the ministry has done building and grounds maintenance, dismantled a commercial kitchen that was donated to the church, moved the church from each of its temporary locations to the next, and supported all church activities.
The men meet each Tuesday for lunch (women and visitors are always welcome!) and fellowship; each Wednesday for Bible study; and each Thursday for coffee and a time of fellowship and prayer.
Women’s Ministry
The Women’s Ministry at Stonegate is also an informal support organization for the church. Functioning under the title of Women of Worth (W.O.W), the women's ministry is anchored by a Bible Study each week as well as a special time of prayer and fellowship in homes. The Women’s Ministry has stuffed stockings for institutionalized children and the battered women’s center, organized church-wide fellowships, sponsored speakers, provided gifts for soldiers on the front lines, sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School and Trunk or Treat.
Family Matters Bible Study for Women
This Bible Study, which has just begun its tenth year, was created by teacher Brenda Hobbs and designed for those women who have a busy schedule, but still want to enjoy furthering their knowledge of the Bible. There is no homework. The lesson and its scripture is provided to the women in a handout. The Bible study is presented twice each week.
Furthermore, each week is a different subject from the week before. Sometimes it is a Bible character, sometimes a Bible passage and sometimes a subject women are interested in. Each week's topic is different, so women who cannot come during a particular week, will not be at a loss when they come back.
Another unique thing about Family Matters is that no one is ever asked to pray aloud unless they have signed a permission slip beforehand. It is intimidating to some women to be asked to pray aloud, and this eliminates the threat of being asked to do it.
Each week Brenda writes and compiles the Bible study, with God's guidance and the many resources available through bookstores, tapes, the Internet and television. "It is a joy and very exciting to be able to use my energy in this way," Brenda said. "It is amazing that God continues to provide more subjects than we could ever study. I consider it a rare privilege that God has tapped me to serve in this way."
Brenda is a long-time Stonegate member and active in a number of civic and service organizations. She is on the board of a number of national, state and local drug abuse prevention foundations and organizations.
Family Matters Bible Study meets from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (except summer) at Stonegate Community Church. For the second Bible study, please contact the church office. Women of all ages are invited to attend, and we even have an attendee or two who are members of other churches but come to the Wednesday Bible study.
Small Group Ministry
We have the beginning of a small group ministry, which is called LifeGroups.
The W.O.W. LifeGroup meets in the homes of different women on the third Sunday at 4 p.m. It is a time of prayer, sharing and fellowship. Sporsor is Kathie Marshall.
A secondLifeGroup, the DayTime LifeGroup, meets the fourth Thursday of each month at a Hewitt restaurant at 11:30 a.m. It is a time to pray, share and have lunch. It is open to men and women of any age. Sponsor is Louise Wolfe.
