 Missions

Stonegate tithes 10 percent of its income to  home and foreign missions.

Home Missions

Mission Waco & Church Uner the Bridge: This ministry is an arm of Mission Waco, which ministers to the poor and homeless in Waco. Church Under the Bridge meets each Sunday under the I-35 bridges over 4th and 5th streets in Waco. In addition to monthly finanical support, Stonegate has participated in some of Church Under the Bridge and Mission Waco's special events.

Friends for Life: This ministry  helps elderly and people with disabilities live independently and cares for those who cannot care for themselves. In addition to monthly financial support, Stonegate participates in helping to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for Friends for Life clients.

Waco Baptist Association: Waco Baptist Association is an administrative arm of the Southern Baptist Convention that provides a covering for local congregations that are Southern Baptist and some that are not, like Stonegate, but that have a statement of Faith and Beliefs that agree with that of the denomination..

Foreign Missions

Southern Baptist Missionaries Bryan and Gina Wooten to Myanmar, also known as Burma. They serve in this Southeast Asian country with their children.

International Baptist Medical Missionaries Damon and Delight Tripp to Saltillo, Mexico. They serve in the northern state of Coahuila with their children.

Campus Crusade for Christ Missionaries Bill and Jeni Hunt to Africa. The Hunts are now back in the states on Medical leave. Campus Crusade for Christ is an interdenominational Christian organization, focusing on evangelism and discipleship in over 190 countries around the world.

Elder-body Ministry

Stonegate’s elder’s meet at least monthly and more often as needed. News from elder meetings, as well as news from all of our church programs and activities, is communicated by email and announcement.

Men’s Ministry

The men’s ministry at Stonegate is an informal support organization for the church. The Men’s Ministry is anchored by a weekly Bible Study, and the ministry  has done building and grounds maintenance, dismantled a commercial kitchen that was donated to the church, moved the church from each of its temporary locations to the next, and supported all church activities.

The men meet each Tuesday for lunch (women and visitors are always welcome!) and fellowship; each Wednesday for Bible study; and each Thursday for coffee and a time of fellowship and prayer.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Ministry at Stonegate is also an informal support organization for the church.  Functioning under the title of Women of Worth (W.O.W), the women's ministry is anchored by a Bible Study each week as well as a special time of prayer and fellowship in homes. The Women’s Ministry has stuffed stockings for institutionalized children and the battered women’s center, organized church-wide fellowships, sponsored speakers,  provided gifts for soldiers on the front lines, sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School and Trunk or Treat.

Family Matters Bible Study for Women

This Bible Study, which has just begun its tenth year, was created by teacher Brenda Hobbs and  designed for those women who have a busy schedule, but still want to enjoy furthering their knowledge of the Bible. There is no homework. The lesson and its scripture is provided to the women in a handout. The Bible study is presented twice each week.

Furthermore, each week is a different subject from the week before. Sometimes it is a Bible character, sometimes a Bible passage and sometimes a subject women are interested in. Each week's topic is different, so women who cannot come during a particular week, will not be at a loss when they come back.

Another unique thing about Family Matters is that no one is ever asked to pray aloud unless they have signed a permission slip beforehand. It is intimidating to some women to be asked to pray aloud, and this eliminates the threat of being asked to do it.

Each week Brenda writes and compiles the Bible study, with God's guidance and the many resources available through bookstores, tapes, the Internet and television. "It is a joy and very exciting to be able to use my energy in this way," Brenda said. "It is amazing that God continues to provide more subjects than we could ever study. I consider it a rare privilege that God has tapped me to serve in this way."

Brenda is a long-time Stonegate member and active in a number of civic and service organizations. She is on the board of a number of national, state and local drug abuse prevention foundations and organizations.

Family Matters Bible Study meets from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (except summer) at Stonegate Community Church. For the second Bible study, please contact the church office. Women of all ages are invited to attend, and we even have an attendee or two who are members of other churches but come to the Wednesday Bible study.

Small Group Ministry

We have the beginning of a small group ministry, which is called LifeGroups.

The W.O.W. LifeGroup meets in the homes of different women on the third Sunday at 4 p.m. It is a time of prayer, sharing and fellowship. Sporsor is Kathie Marshall.

A secondLifeGroup, the DayTime LifeGroup, meets the fourth Thursday of each month at a Hewitt restaurant at 11:30 a.m. It is a time to pray, share and have lunch. It is open to men and women of any age.  Sponsor is Louise Wolfe.

Children's Ministry

Our Children's Ministry is  under the direction of Children's Christian Education Coordinator GayNell Smith and includes Bible study for young children, toddlers and nursery. King's Kids (Children's Church) requires volunteer teams managed by Ms Smith.

Sunday School: Stonegate has an organized age-based and graded education program for children age 3 - grade 12 that uses a combination of literature developed by the children's director and purchased through Christian publishing outlets. See the Education section for more information.

King's Kids: This is our Children's Church, and is open to children up to second grade. Children have topical lessons, learn Bible scripture, and play games.

Puppet Ministry: A Puppet Ministry is an occasional function of King's Kids, our Children's Church program, and is an outreach program for our youth who are the puppetteers.

Vacation Bible School: Stonegate has had three- and four-day programs open to the public. The program is supported by the Men's and Women's ministries.

Prayer Ministry

Stonegate is a praying church. In addition to prayer during Sunday School, worship and Bible Study, Stonegate has Prayer Mail, an e-mail service for those people who want to stay apprised of prayer needs during the week.  Stonegate men also meet at 7:00 a.m. Thursdays at the church for prayer, fellowship and coffee or breakfast.

Benevolence Ministry

The Benevolence Ministry at Stonegate prepares food for families affected by hospital stays, illnesses or deaths.  Director is Linda Alexander.
